Socratic Seminar Reflection

Three points that I brought up in the Socratic Seminar was how the children were separated from their families, how the work environments damaged the children mentally and physically, and how unsafe the working environments are.

Three points that other people brought up that I found important were that even though the working conditions aren't safe for the children, they still are being fed and have a place to sleep. Even though the parents knew how bad child labor is, the children didn't know so they weren't aware of how bad it was going to be for them until they started working. Finally, someone said that some families needed the money so bad that the kids needed to work so it wasn't really an option for them.

I think that our group did a good job of finding the reasons as to why child labor is so bad and I think that the opinion we had were good especially using specific evidence from the readings. I think that next time we can use more details from the readings to back up our points and I think that we can organize our thoughts a little more instead of saying something that doesn't relate to the point that was just made.
